Is It Too Late too Sign up for Summer Camp?

Whether it's too late to sign up for camp might sound like a silly question considering it's only March. But you know what? These days, summer camps fill up FAST.

Ever heard the phrase "the Early Bird Gets the Worm?" That adage has never been truer when applied to summer camp enrollment.

The reason why is because most camps have very limited capacity. They register kids on a first-come, first-served basis. With only limited available space at most camps, kids who sign up earliest stand the best change of getting in.

Families who procrastinate risk dealing with the waiting list.

And considering most top summer camps began accepting new registrants several months ago, we advise getting registered at the camp of your choice sooner rather than later if you're one of those families who's been putting it off.

What happens if you end up on the waiting list?

In that case there's no guarantee you'll get in and no guarantee you won't. It's just like any standard waiting list. If the kids above you drop out, your child moves up the list and hopefully eventually gets in. If not, you'll have to keep waiting and just cross your fingers your child finally gets into camp.

Now if you do wind up on the waiting list, you'll want to cover your bets that your child can at least get into camp somewhere.

To this end, you should identify a few other camps (second and third choices) that your son or daughter wants to attend so they can have a great experience no matter where they end up going to camp.

You can then reserve space at those other camps just to be on the safe side.

It might take putting down deposits at each one, but at least you know you've got something lined up if your first choice doesn't pan out.

And you can usually get at least some of your deposit back even if your child doesn't end up going.

Don't Be Late to the Game!

Bottom line, if you want to send your kids to camp this year, don't miss the boat. Other families have been late to the game when signing up for camp and trust us, their kids were NOT happy campers!

It's not too late to sign up for camp just yet, but don't wait any longer because it won't be a fun conversation if you have to tell your son or daughter they didn't get in to the camp they wanted because you waited to long to register.
